A growing sensation

Guaba – an ‘out of this world’ club/bar – was originally just a small beach hut. In 2008, it relocated to a new spot along Limassol Sea Road and is now just up the road from its humble beginnings. Guaba has since grown to become a massive display of multicoloured ribbons, netting, lights and is looking to expand internationally.

Have you ever had a cocktail with a toy shark swimming in it?

Heavily curated by Andreas Michaelides, a well-travelled bartender who has been working at Guaba for eight years, he has bestowed the bar with its own unique style and feel. Andreas had been given free-reign on the site by founder/owner, Yiannis Antoniades, and has transformed the venue into his creative brainchild.

“I try to see things in different ways rather than just how it is.”

Andreas Michaelides, manager at Guaba Beach Bar

Andreas’ cocktails take inspiration from everyday objects and are always involving. He has a flare for taste and knows what flavours to mix together to make a mouthwatering drink. This season’s cocktail menu even includes a toy shark swimming in a crushed-olive mojito filled bag – it’s called ‘under the sea’.

It mustn’t be just the funky cocktails that draw in the large crowds though as DJ Mag, a British monthly magazine, voted Guaba as the 19th best club in the world and 3rd best beach bar in the world for 2017. Currently in its 12th year, Guaba hosts internationally recognised DJs that play nearly every Sunday – its designated party day of the week!

But that doesn’t mean it’s quiet for the rest of the week! Far from dull, there is always something new happening at this vibrant beach bar. Throughout the week, you will find designated music days for reggae, locorico nights, and go banana Saturdays.

Guaba even has buoys just to the right of its coastal lounges to anchor to for you cruisers out there! And with weird and wonderful ideas like plans to put a trampoline in the sea, Guaba is definitely a place to keep an eye on!
